A member of Lewisburg Sunset Rotary Club, Karen served the former District 7370 as a District Governor in 2004-2005.  She has served the district in many capacities since joining Rotary:  Club President, Assistant Governor, Annual Funds District 7370 Chair, Paul Harris Society Chair, Ambassadorial Scholarship Committee, District Conference Chair; District Membership Chair, New Club Extension Chair, District Public Image chair, District 7360 Corporation Board Member and currently as the District 7360 Trainer.  Karen has sponsored 84 members to Rotary.  In the Lewisburg Sunset Rotary Club, she has held many offices; currently as Club Vice President!  (She jests that maybe the second time around, she’ll get it right.)  Karen and her husband Fred , also a Rotarian, have hosted 9 youth exchange students.

Karen was appointed Zone 29 Endowment/Major Gifts Adviser for the years 2014-2017; the 3-year appointment ended June 30th.  One of 41 E/MGA’s worldwide, Karen worked with the Trustees of TRF and helped to carry out education, cultivation and major gift/bequest society development.  She has served as Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator (Zone 29), as a Zone 31/32 Membership Coordinator (pre-zone realignment), and a Mentor (Zone 31/32 and 28/29) to several District Governor Nominees. In 2010, she proudly served on the Montreal Convention Promotions Committee.  She was honored to serve as Rotary International Presidents Representative several times from Indiana to the UK (and several states in between) and has been a membership keynote speaker in Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and England.  Understanding the importance of Rotary education, she was certified as a Faculty Member of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI).   For the last three years she has worked as the Zone 29 Emerging Leader Coordinator introducing Rotarians to leadership beyond the club.

Internationally, Karen is a Rotary Alumnus, leading a team to District 4180 on the west coast of Mexico; later joining an NID team to Uttar Pradash, India; traveling to Nicaragua as Board Member of Hunger Plus, Inc and in 2013, co-chairing a Club solar energy project now constructed in Haiti.  Both Karen and Fred are Rotary Foundation Major Donors and Arch Klumph Society members.  Karen and Fred were sponsored into Rotary by her late Father, Paul Heim, a very proud 50+ year Rotarian.

Outside of Rotary, Karen has served on the Board of Directors for “Transitions”, a safe shelter for victims of domestic violence and other serious crimes.  She is working with the local hospital to develop a domestic violence/rape crisis center.  She is a member of the Healthy Woman Board of Directors at this hospital and has worked on the Public Relations Committee at the same facility.  In the Fall 2017, Karen worked with another business owner and began a grassroots organization for networking and healthy living for women in her offices’ city, simply called the Sunbury Women’s Group.

Karen has served on the Women’s Leadership Symposium board of the local Chamber of Commerce.  Helping children of the Susquehanna Valley, she served a 3-year tenure on the Board for Big Brothers Big sisters; and served a two year term as President of Sisterhood and Board member, Congregation Beth El.  She is a Past President and Founder of the Union County Medical Alliance and past Pennsylvania State Medical Society Alliance member.  For fun, she is a partner with daughter Christine in C and K’s Unique Creations, creating fairy and gnome gardens for craft fairs.

Karen has worked in medical management for over 30 years and is the Practice Manager for Central Penn Women’s Health Care, a practice she opened with husband Fred to provide quality health care to women.   Karen and Fred are parents of daughters Christine and Jennifer, her husband Paul, and young granddaughters Georgia and Lily (all Paul Harris fellows).
